Had no plans on doing much weekend just past but for some reason on mothers day morning i was wide awake at 4.15 so i left the wife snoring in bed and creeped out the house. I loaded the van up and drove off down the lake the wind was gailforce and coming in a north direction this was spot on as id been pre baiting a snag on the north of the lake with about 1/2 kg of scopex squid livers a week, for sometime now, and thinking our friends would like some peaceful calmer water out of the cold wind i knew were to drop my line in . The lake i chose this year for the winter ive never had the pleasure of fishing before and didn't even know it was there only 20 minutes away from my door. the lake has always had fish in the high 20s coming out and never yet a thirty ive now fished it from late Oct and had ten 20lb+ fish to 28.02 and four upper doubles and a pretty little fully scaled mirror at around eight to ten pounds.
I used a 1oz carpio cube in black silt colour as i was only fishing 10 yards at the most, one rod was put out and i was fishing your bait and feed scopex squid liver +15mm bottom hook baits with a 10 mm pop up on top a small bag on the hook link with pro betaine pellet and stick mix. The line was in the lake less than 20 mins and i was into a good fish, a battle at the rod tip pursued and after keeping the fish from the snags on both sides i got her in the net. I zipped her up after unhooking her and called for a fellow angler to come and do the honours for me at this point i didn't now how heavy the fish was and after we weighed her i realised the carp in the sack was the new lake record and the first official 30lb+ carp banked on this lake. a picture was taken of the scales and a picture of her going back in the lake i do like to have one going back of the larger carp. after weighing the sling the official weight was 32lb 1oz of pure English carp the best mothers day present ive ever had. Well i was packed up and home again after stopping for flowers for the wife by 10 am and i walked into the house to, oh yeah and were have you been and my reply was well you'll never guess what happened this morning.
This is not an easy lake as the usual suspects havent been catching and they have been on here for years. Myself and a couple of others are catching and we are all on scopex squid.
