Lee Gennings - April 2007
If you rightly remember I said in last month’s article that my fishing for the month before was absolutely dead, with only a couple of small doubles to my name.
Well for me and a few friends the fishing has come right around and the complete contrast had brought a few big fish to our names!

Spring it on
Spring is now well and truly here with the hot days and the cold nights, although as I write this it is moving on and becoming a lot warmer. Due to a very mild winter and the lack of frosts you can understand why things have kicked in a little early this year.
This was certainly the case for me down in the Kent Valley.

Winter target in Spring
Throughout the winter I done a little bit of time down the Mid Kent Stour Lake, and in amongst the four or five target fish I would have liked to catch there was one called “The Parrot”. Sadly this fish never met the folds of my landing net; however I went back to the Stour for a 48 hour session at the beginning of April and after observing the fish moving only two rod lengths out I angled correctly and had her on the second day, what a great fight she was! After this success I moved onto my target venue for a night and had the “Scar Fish” at 32lb, she was down in weight but I was very happy with this capture as by anyone’s standards she’s a stunner. Two target fish under my belt, happy days!

Ambition Achieved
Andy, a very close friend mine has now achieved a very long awaited ambition. I was fishing down on a Kent Gravel pit with him and after watching him move a couple of times throughout the day to showing fish, he went quietly about his approach and took a 39lb 8oz mirror from very close in. This was in the shape of his target fish, and a new PB. Well done mate, hopefully I’ll be there to share the joy when you have that 40lb.

Pellets
Pellets are a great in spring. Now we all know that carp are at there most catchable in spring due to the low pressure from the anglers over the winter and this with the starting supply of angler’s baits makes them less weary and more able to drop there guard quicker around food. Carp over the winter period slowly but surely burn off all there fatty acids they built up for the winter on there September/October heavy feeding period the year before. They naturally want to replace this come spring when they start feeding again, and a great way to supply this to them is by using pellets in conjunction with your chosen good quality food bait.

Awsome in there own right!
Looking back at the captures me and my friends have had throughout this month, after having a little chat with them all we come to the fact that every carp was caught either over a bed of pellet or caught using small PVA mesh bags of pellet. The pellets I have used to take my fish on have been the Mini Betaine Salmon pellets supplied by David at the Bait & Feed Company, awesome in there own right! I am just waiting for a varied variety of pellet to be delivered, so I will have some images and thoughts for you next month! As for now get on the Pellet!
