Lee Gennings - March 2007

Well I hope you’ve all had a good months fishing because I can certainly say that I haven’t, sadly. It’s been a real shame but it just keeps me going back wanting more. I have still managed to get out angling but only for one day session a week, all but one 48hour session at the beginning of the month. As we all know spring is on its way and hopefully a lot of good will come with it.

Coconut 42
Last month I mentioned the New Coconut 42 boilies that have been released, well I received 5kg of 14mm baits from David a few weeks back and what an excellent bait they are. I have been baiting a local club lake near me with them for a couple of weeks and four fish have been taken on them, one by me, a small 7lb common and Tom a close friend of mine has taken a 24lb common which I will have in the column next month, an 18lb koi and lastly another small single. The leak off of the bait is awesome as it has no fishmeal or fish oil in the mix to congeal in colder water, and the sweet smell it has to it produced by the coconut is great, watch this space.

Fluoros
A lot of you have probably seen the New Plum and Black Pepper Fluoros advertised either in Carp Talk a few weeks back or at the Carp Show. Well I don’t think there should be an angler on earth who goes fishing without a good Hi-Attract bait in there bait bag, and these are the ones to have. I certainly am going to be using them throughout this season and I can already see the fish on the unhooking mat. Plum is awesome and recognised by many as a very good fish catching flavour. It’s even used is some of the most successful big fish baits on the market such as the B5 so it was only right to use it in these pop-ups, now David the mastermind behind these baits decided on giving the fish a bit more of an appetite satisfying bait by enhancing the Plum flavour with Black pepper oil, which is an essential oil and also recognised as an excellent additive. Next time you order don’t forget to put a pot of these on your list. To supplement the Coconut 42 bottom baits David has done some Coconut Cream Fluoros in white. I think white is a great colour as it stands out against everything, and you look at the success over the years on bread, and ask yourself what colour it is.

Dips
The New Sweet Corn extract dip is a must for my angling this year. As it is PVA friendly my idea is to soak real sweet corn in the dip and use PVA bags of the mix with a corn hook bait, this should get nice tight patches of corn to the bottom and with the addition of the sweet gloopy extract I have just made an all time favourite greater. Also the Pro-Stick Mix dip is going to be used in a lot of my dry mixes such as the New Nutty Seed Mix David sent me through. The Pro-Stick Mix dip is a very savoury liquid food and boosts any mix you want to use. Lastly the Condensed Milk extract that I mentioned last month is for when I want to spod an attractive cloudy mix, this should catch the attention of any passing carp in the area.
